Episode 6: Creation—A Likely Story

The Seven Days of Creation

Here are the Days of Creation in Genesis:

Day	Scripture	What happened
1	And God said, “Let there be light” (1:3)	The Big Bang; Radiant energy
2	“Let there be space between the waters…” (1:6-8)	Light breaks through sky & water; The atmosphere is opaque; Evaporation cycle
3	“Let the waters beneath the sky be gathered into one place so dry ground may appear….” (1:9-11)	Land shows and plants grow; Volcanic activity pushes land surface (29% land and 71% water; Cyano bacteria begins; Plant growth
4	“Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night…” 1:14-15)	Sunlight penetrates the earth; Atmosphere prepares for animal and human life; Earth rotation slows; Photosynthesis brings oxygen and new plant life; There is an ozone layer in the atmosphere
5	“Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind…:(1:20-23)	Swimmers and flyers are created, along with— Invertebrates in the ocean; Fish and shellfish. The Cambrian explosion; Insects; Flying reptiles; Feathered winged birds
6	“Let the earth bring forth every kind of animal…” (1:24-27)	Crawlers and walkers; Animal life begins; Dinosaurs? Adam and Eve
7	On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work (2:2)	No new works of creation

If your Worldview says that there is no Creator, here’s what you get:

All things in the world, including humans, evolved by random chance and mechanistic, undirected causes
There is no purpose in life. We are insignificant, random, accidental mutations
There is no truth. Our decision and choices have no ultimate consequences
At death, life ends. There is no future and no hope

If your Worldview says that God created the heavens and the earth, here’s what you get:

Everything is here by God’s design
There is meaning to our existence; our lives matter because God made us for a purpose
There is truth, so we better find out God’s set of rules
There is more to life than what we see; there is a spiritual dimension to our existence
There is eternity after death, so our decisions and choices make a difference
