Question: What gives Satan so much power? I know he can give you negative thoughts and make you do things against God’s Word. So what makes him turn our will? Can you explain?

Answer: Satan is powerful, clever and completely wicked. We must never forget that. He is the mighty enemy of God. But he is not the opposite of God. God and Satan are not in a great struggle. God is in control and Satan can never win.

So if God is in control, why does he allow evil and Satan? God has given all of His created beings free will, and that includes the angels. Satan was the mightiest of all the angels, and He chose to rebel against God, taking a third of all the angels in heaven with him. Satan is incredibly strong, but he is till subject to God. Satan runs free because God allows it, even if we don’t understand why. God is holy, and He will only put up with Satan for so long. Ultimately, Satan is going down to defeat, along with everyone who refuses to accept the saving work of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, you can stand firm against Satan. Resist him (James 4:7). Don’t give him any opportunities to tempt you (1 Timothy 5:14). Use prayer and the Bible to defend yourself against his schemes (Ephesians 4:27). You can’t win the battle on your own, but He who is in you is greater than he that is in the world.
