Questions of the Week

Question: Is there a Biblical problem with being cremated instead of being buried? Some people are against cremation, and I was wondering if there are any Biblical reasons to back up their argument.

Answer: We can’t find any biblical objections to cremation. It certainly is the tradition of the church, perhaps stemming from the Jewish practice, but as far as we can tell, there isn’t any compelling biblical reason against cremation.

People who argue against cremation need to think about this: Bodies buried hundreds of years ago have turned to dust. So what’s the difference between cremation and the natural progression of decomposition? When Jesus returns in the Second Coming, and all believers who have died will be raised and given resurrection bodies (1 Corinthians 15:35-44), it won’t matter what state they are in. God will give all who have trusted in Him spiritual bodies that will never die and decay.
