What’s the Right Way to Pray?
QUESTION: In my prayers, I have a problem of not exactly knowing who to pray to. I have heard that we are to pray to the Father by the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ. I know that God is Trinity, but I just feel like I am ignoring a Person if I do not at least mention or give praise to all three. Can you tell me what is the correct way to pray that will be most pleasing to God?
ANSWER: Because God is in three Persons, we aren’t somehow missing the boat when we pray to only one Person. God will hear our prayers regardless of how we invoke His name.
However, there does seem to be a pattern of prayer, and it was given to us by Jesus in the Lord’s Prayer. He prayed, “Our Father….” So praying to God our Father seems to be a good way to start. But what about the other members of the Trinity? How do we include them in our prayers?
We asked a theologian about this, and he said that praying “with the grain” of Scripture means that we pray to the Father, in the Name of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit (just as you have been taught).
The great news is that all three persons are involved in our prayer. Jesus is our Advocate, sitting by the right hand of the Father, speaking to the Father in our defense (Mark 16:19; 1 John 2:1). The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf “with groans that words cannot express” (Romans 8:26).
However, just to make it clear, if you begin your prayers with “Dear Jesus,” that doesn’t confuse the triune God. Remember, He knows exactly what you need even before you ask. And He is pleased anytime you come to Him in prayer, regardless of how you pray.
How do i as a christian relate to another people of different religions in my room, can i speak Christ to them?
We all believe there are different churches in the world, but the good thing is that we all believe in ONE God.And we also believe in Jesus Christ who died for our sins regardless of who we are.
i was just inquiring ow do i pray
thanks x x
Prayer is simply talking with God. It’s the way we communicate with God. It isn’t necessary to pray out loud. God can hear us whether we pray out loud or silently. There be value to praying out loud, however. If you are asked to pray in a group, your words can be a source of praise to God and encouragement to others. At the same time, if we pray aloud in order to impress others, then it is a problem, because we are bringing attention to ourselves rather than to God.
When in doubt, it’s better to pray silently, or at least privately. Here’s what Jesus advised:
“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him.” (Matt. 6:7,8). And then Jesus gave His disciples the Lord’s prayer.
I WANT TO ASK A QUESTION.
DO I HAVE TO IMAGINE THE THINGS THAT I WANT IN MY MIND, WHILE PRAYING TO JESUS, OR IS IT FINE IF I JUST PRAY OR ASK WHAT I WANT FROM MY HEART?
