Leadership

People will be anxious to serve under a leader who is willing to serve them.

“Lead, follow, or get out of the way” is a rather intimidating phrase implying that only people who are aggressive and bold can lead (while everyone else had better fall into line or stand aside.) Is this your idea of leadership? When you are in charge, do you try to intimidate others and order people around?

Modern leadership theory subscribes to the concept of “servant leadership.” This was hailed as a groundbreaking management concept in the 1970s. Wow! It only took society a little more than nineteen centuries to catch on to what Jesus taught.

If you want to be an effective leader, be a servant. Forget about the power and prestige and intimidation. Follow the example of Jesus and serve others.

Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men order their people around, and yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you, those who are the greatest should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.”
