I read Stan and Bruce's book, "Growing as a Christian 101" and it really taught me how to pray and how to establish a closer, personal relationship with God. There are always times when "feelings" just aren't there...but get in the Word and pray...talk to God, and He will be there to fill your heart with with all the fullness and life you can handle! If we don't hear God or feel his presence, it is a wall WE put up, not God. That was a hard thing for me to realize and admit to....but it sure is true in my life!
