Work On Your Character
Character is made by what you stand for; reputation by what you fall for.
Character and reputation are closely related, but they come about in very different ways. Your character takes a long time to develop–a lifetime, in fact. It’s a work that’s always in progress, and it is built in small increments. Your reputation, on the other hand, depends on how you respond in certain situations. You become known as “courageous,” “tough-minded,” “decisive,” or “trustworthy” because of the predictable actions that come out of your character.
It’s more important to work on your character than your reputation, because your reputation can change if you make wrong decisions or encounter some obstacles that cause you to falter. When this happens, don’t worry. Your reputation will return–stronger than ever–as long as your character is rooted in God and not in your own strength.
“Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
Luke 16:10
