What Is Your Motive?
The more imporant the task, the more you need to examine your motives.
Why do you do what you do? Is it to please others and win their approval, or do you live to please God? And just how do you please God? By telling others about the Good News of Jesus.
Even when you tell others about Jesus, you need to examine your motives. How are you approaching people? If you try to convince them by complimenting them or by trying to adapt the Good News to their lifestyle, you’re not presenting God’s message honestly. You shouldn’t live for the praise and approval of others, especially when you witness.
Jesus never compromised His message by being anything other than a servant. You should do the same. Besides, you can’t fool God. He knows the motives of every heart.
Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you very well know.
1 Thessalonians 2:5
I’m confused now, all these different ways of sharing The Gospel that I’ve heard of. What is the correct way to spread The Gospel? I try doing it by letting people see Christ active in my life but I’m not so sure if it’s the only thing anymore.
You’ve got it! The best way to spread the gospel (Good News) of Jesus is to let people see Him in your life. It isn’t necessary to manipulate people or “water down” the truth about Jesus. Let the love and light of Jesus shine through your life. This can happen through your words, your actions, and your care and concern for others. Trust the Holy Spirit to put you in situations where you can relate to people and share His love with them.
Ahhh, I see now.
Adam,
If you have not read them, I would highly recommend the “Sharing Your Faith is Not Optional” and “How to Share Your Faith” chapters from the “Growing as a Christian 101″ book. I found a lot of answers to questions I had about sharing my faith.
