Questions of the Week

Question: The other night I watch a National Geographic Special called “The Secrets of Revelation”. I was concerned over the last part of the program where they stated that the Rapture is not mentioned once in Revelation, and then went on to say that the Rapture was from one of the earlier authors of the Bible that knew an Irish girl who had a vision of the rapture and included this in the Bible. Is this true or is the reporter for National Geographic completely wrong?

Answer: While the word “Rapture” is not mentioned in the Bible, the concept is definitely there, and it’s not from an author who knew an Irish girl. The apostle Paul writes about this event in his first letter to the Thessalonians. Read it in 1 Thess. 4:13-18. In particular, note verse 17, which says, “After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.”

The phrase “caught up” is the meaning of the word “rapture.” So clearly, the concept of the Rapture is in the Bible.

Don’t put any stock in National Geographic when it comes to biblical truth. Keep in mind that the purpose of the editors is to discredit the Bible and the historical Jesus. Their programs have done this time and time again over the years.
