Greatness

True greatness is measured by the things you do for people who can’t reciprocate.
Quid pro quo is a legal term that lawyers use to mean an equal exchange of consideration. Non-lawyers don’t have to use the Latin phrase. They can just say, “Even Steven.” You might also know this concept by its anatomical terminology, “You scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours.”

There is nothing wrong with doing something for someone who can reciprocate. But there is nothing great about it, either. Don’t think that you have the attitude of a humble servant when you offer to do a favor for someone if you have a “Now he owes me one” mentality.

Look for things that you can do for someone who has no ability to repay you. When you aren’t concerned about keeping things equal, then you will be acting like a humble servant.

“And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.”

Matthew 18:5
